Zack Polanski - Green Party Economic Plan

The view that The Green Party manifesto is just an idealistic wishlist completely misreads the situation. This is a cold, calculated asset-stripping operation targeting the progressive core of a fragmenting country.

Five years of this in government wouldn't yield a carbon-neutral utopia. It would trigger immediate capital flight and a brutal private-sector contraction. Mobile wealth leaves the jurisdiction long before it can be confiscated to fund a 70% top tax rate.

Raising £150 billion via wealth and carbon taxes assumes capital is static. It isn't. The UK’s top 1% of earners already generate nearly 30% of all income tax revenue. Force a wealth levy, and that tax base shrinks within 24 months as capital migrates to the continent or offshore.

Halting all new oil and gas licences while printing fiat currency for local retrofitting guarantees an unhedged reliance on imported energy. You get structural industrial decline and a permanent inflationary floor.

The Greens don’t need a majority to alter the country. By anchoring 10–12% of the progressive vote in key urban and university seats, they permanently deny Labour a functional working majority.

Westminster gets locked into a cycle of unstable, low-conviction coalitions.

The strategic reality is a zero-sum trap. Attempting even a fraction of this manifesto would instantly crash sterling and spike gilt yields. The bond markets would force an immediate, humiliating U-turn.

The Green Party's economic plan exists purely because they face zero accountability for its real-world maths. It is a luxury consumer product for voters who want the moral high ground without ever having to manage the subsequent economic ruins.
